چکیده

The article is devoted to the analysis of flame anchoring mechanism in test case MASCOTTE C-60 RCM2 on supercritical hydrogen/oxygen combustion at 60 bar, with transcritical (liquid) injection oxygen. simulated by means in-house parallel code HeaRT three-dimensional LES framework. cubic Peng–Robinson equation state its improved translated volume formulation assumed. Diffusive mechanisms and transport properties are accurately modeled. A finite-rate detailed scheme involving main radicals, already validated for high-pressure H2/O2 combustion, adopted. flow analysed terms temperature, hydrogen oxygen instantaneous spatial distributions, evidencing effects vortex shedding from edges injector separation stream divergent section tapered topology. Combustion conditions characterised looking equivalence ratio compressibility factor distributions.

Regimes of Non-premixed Flame-vortex Interactions

Detailed studies of flame-vortex interactions are extremely valuable to improve our understanding of turbulent combustion regimes. Combined experimental and numerical studies have already been performed in the premixed case during previous investigations. Therefore, we decided to carry out a detailed experimental investigation on the regimes observed during interaction of a vortex ring and a no...

Cover illustration: Non-premixed hydrocarbon flame

This year’s cover illustration, reproduced here as figure 1, depicts an image formed by a short-time (1/1000 s) exposure of a non-premixed hydrocarbon flame. The flow is driven by the buoyancy forces generated by the density difference from the combustion heat release and resulting temperature rise. The Reynolds number for this buoyancy-induced, turbulent flow is relatively low, estimated at a ...

Simulations of edge-flame propagation in turbulent non-premixed jets

Ignition, flame propagation and stabilisation have been simulated and analysed in a turbulent jet of non-premixed methane and air. The first order Conditional Moment Closure (CMC) turbulent combustion model was fully coupled with a Reynolds-Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) flow simulation. A CMC model was developed to account for spark ignition. The over-prediction of turbulent flame propagation w...

Studies on non-premixed flame streets in a mesoscale channel

The effects of channel width, wall temperature, and flow rate on the dynamics of non-premix flames in a mesoscale combustor were studied in methane and propane–air mixing layers. A flame street structure which consists of multiple triple flamelets in the mixing layer of the reactants was observed experimentally for the first time. Depending on the flow rate, it was found that there are two diff...

Premixed-flame shapes and polynomials

The nonlinear nonlocal Michelson-Sivashinsky equation for isolated crests of unstable flames is studied, using pole-decompositions as starting point. Polynomials encoding the numerically computed 2N flame-slope poles, and auxiliary ones, are found to closely follow a MeixnerPollaczek recurrence; accurate steady crest shapes ensue for N3. Squeezed crests ruled by a discretized Burgers equation ...
